Wishes for Christmas

Just before the Christmas holidays, we had the chance to get to know each other "live". We had a video conference and we talked to our partners. It was a fantastic experience. We are going to do it again!

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR

Something about our school

Our school is located near "Fontana Luminosa" and the castle, just in the centre of l'Aquila.
It is called ITASS "Elena di Savoia".
We are 350 students (but only 20 boys!!!). So the boys are very lucky, but the girls not very much.
Those who love scientific subjects attend the biological branch, where there is a lot of maths, chemistry, biology, science etc...
Those who are fond of foreign languages attend the linguistic branch, where they study mostly: Spanish, French, English and German. Another branch is "social activities" that is a more pratical course where you can study psicology, aliments, healthy and junk food, diets, illnesses and how to give disable people the means to work, live and comunicate in social life.
All the students in our school attend the lessons from Monday to Saturday from 8:20 to 13:30.
There are no lessons in the afternoon, but some projects: etwinning is one of them, as well as sport activities, theatre etc...
We assure you that our male teachers are very handosome but they are few, the female teachers are nice and young in spirit. This is why we make a lot of projects.

An angel died

Everything started on Saturday 6th December 2008…

His name was Alexis Grigoropoulos, a child born in Athens. He was one of us… a 15-year-old boy dreaming of the future. He had lots of dreams for himself. He would like to be a lawyer, he wanted to succeed in this domain. Well, nothing is certain in this life!

Like everyone at his age, he wanted to entertain himself by going out to celebrate the name-day of one of his friends.

It was 8:30pm…

Demonstrations were taking place in the centre of Athens. Students from all Athens’ universities had been protesting about the economical crisis which has affected everyone, Greek people, too. You could hear the sound of molotov, smoke grenades etc.

9:20pm…

Alexis was in the street when a police car passed by. Someone threw a bottle of beer at the car. After a couple of minutes the officers being in the car came back and there was an argument. They exchanged some insults. The situation started to get from bad to worse when suddenly a bullet stopped everyone’s voice…

Alexis GOT KILLED! The two officers walked away as if nothing had happened…
Greece is mourning…

The Police officers were arrested but nothing can bring back the soul of this boy whose death was so unfair.
“ He was only 15” everyone said.. Riots broke out all over the centre of Athens and then all over Greece, targeting police stations.

Although everything started from a small number of people, during the day many school and university students, as well as other young people, started taking part in the clashes with the riot police.
Like every riot, this one had its consequences. Many shops were burnt and their windows were smashed. In addition to this, some people with their faces covered broke into the stores and started ramaging and looting them.

So far there have been demonstrations and clashes with the police in the centre of Athens everyday. Yesterday one of the students of our school, who took part in a demonstration, was arrested. Today he is being taken to court and many teachers, parents and students have gone to support him.

Fortunately, Vrilissia is far from the centre and the events haven’t affected us directly.

Wondering around

About his travels

First of all, I would like to say that I was really impressed when my teacher, Mr Tsilafakis, was saying some things about him… I don 't know why, no reason I guess… Isn't that crazy? Maybe… I think it happened because I love travelling and meeting new people and I was really jealous of him… I still am ….His dream was to “explore” all the world! And one day, he took the decision to start this journey…he wants to see all the world in 365 years! and his budget is only 6000 euros! little money for a whole year! his target is not to surpass this limit of money and he wants to do couch surfing! his destination: all the world!!

He started this travel on 17 March 2008! His best friend, Konstantinos, was his travel companion, his partner in this dream. But one day he decided to come back to Greece, so now he is alone: him, himself and he! but he is fine! Now he is in Australia and he will stay there for along time! anyone can communicate with him through the blog that he has created: http://wonderaround.wordpress.com/ He answers your questions and he is refreshing this blog every week with photos, maps and his expierences! You can find a lot of things and it is really worthwhile to “visit” it! He usually writes in Greek (sometimes in Latin characters - we call this Greeklish), but there are reports in English, too. Also you can give him money if you want to help him in this journey. He has found some sponsors and a really great travel magazine named "Passport", which describes his travels, it has “adopted” him !!

Some information about First Lykeio Vrilission!

Dear friends,

I'm writing this information to strengthen our bonds and let you have some information about our school.
First of all, our school is just another Greek ordinary school that you see every day . But for the students here is something more than just a mere High school , it is their second home . Like all the students of every High school on the surface of the earth , we spend here seven hours per day studying and having fun . When the time comes for the Italian students to visit our school , I can assure you that they will have the best days of their lives .
Furthermore , as you know , if everything goes all right, teachers and students from your country will pay a visit to Greece . Every single member from the project is special, they are unique and it will be my pleasure to meet them all, not only my pleasure but everyone's from the group in Greece .
We are all looking forward to the day that we will meet face to face . Let's do our best to make the days that we will spend together days that will stay forever in our mind and heart .
Yours,
Annivas S.
